FC and Romans Drôme Rugby will be opponents on the field on Friday October 11 at the Stade des Alpes. But on Wednesday 9, they were in the same “box”: that of the Top 14 and Pro D2 clubs summoned by the disciplinary committee of the National Rugby League (LNR).

Not due to cards received on the pitch, but “alleged breaches of the regulations provided for by the General Regulations of the LNR in connection with the wearing of additional equipment”, according to the terminology used by the League in its press releases.

And on Wednesday, the sanction fell: 4,000 euros suspended fine for the FCG, after the match at (19-42), and 8,000 euros suspended fine for the VRDR (cumulative of two cases), after the reception in Béziers (22-29), September 13.

Olympique (€8,000 suspended), US (€4,000 suspended), Rugby (€4,000 suspended), USON (€4,000 suspended) and AS Béziers Hérault (€3,000) are the five other clubs sanctioned, for the 3rd day of Pro D2.

Stories of mismatched socks

Why these cascading sanctions, knowing that other clubs (Top 14 and Pro D2) have already been fined at the end of September? In reality, the NRL is hunting down non-compliant equipment. And, after the helmets which were not the same color last season, it is the socks which are in the crosshairs this season.

Clearly, rugby players are not allowed to wear socks and over-socks (comfort or protection) which are not identical colors to those of the club; at FC Grenoble, the red and the blue for example.

Each club must therefore quickly comply with the regulations. Knowing that the FCG (October 30) and the VRDR (November 6) are still summoned before the disciplinary committee, for the same reason, for the 4th (FCG – Dax) and 5th days (VRDR – ) of the championship.
