Bernard Laporte plants a new banderilla against Florian Grill. The latter succeeded him as president of the French Rugby Federation following his resignation. The rivalry has not faded and the one who became director of rugby in Montpellier did not fail to criticize it. In an interview given to RMC Sport, the former coach of the XV of France strongly criticized the management of his successor following the various incidents which affected French rugby this summer, between the indictments of Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou, the racist remarks of Melvyn Jaminet and the disappearance by Medhi Narjissi. He accuses Grill of clinging to power: “I am far from all that because it no longer concerns me and it no longer interests me. I’m not there anymore, I don’t want to come back and that’s how it is. But I find these permanent quarrels unpleasant for our sport. There are people who cling to it, the power drives them crazy. I find that some people lacked humility. »
“How can you still stand still?
For him, Florian Grill should simply have resigned: “I don’t want to get into arguments but with everything that happened this summer, I believe that some should have had the courage to say that we must leave, that we must resign, it’s called courage, and not to hang on. Because some very serious things happened this summer. » While he resigned after being convicted at first instance, Bernard Laporte would have wanted Florian Grill to imitate him: “This summer? It’s maddening. How can you still stay put? I don’t know but it’s still surprising. But that no longer concerns me, everyone has the right to do what they want but I think it lacks a little height and class. At a certain point you have to say that, no, we didn’t do things the right way and you have to leave. Rather than constantly clinging and quarreling. I see and receive things where people almost insult each other, pfff…that’s not rugby. Being president of a federation, you are not president of the Republic. » As the elections for the presidency of the FFR approach, Bernard Laporte has unsurprisingly given his support to Didier Codorniou.
