PARALYMPICS – The 18th gold medal for France! The French Mathieu Bosredon, Florian Jouanny and Joseph Fritsch won the Paralympic title in the mixed team relay H1-5 event, in paracycling, this Saturday, September 7, in Clichy-sous-Bois.

After Mathieu Bosredon’s second run, the French team was already in the lead of the race, well ahead of Italy. The French handbike relay team even finished more than a minute ahead of the Italians.
Already the winner of the time trial and the individual race in the H3 category of this discipline where athletes operate the pedals using their arms, Mathieu Bosredon is sure to be the most successful French para-athlete at these Games.
Paracycling wins more than half of French titles
The victorious French team also included Florian Jouanny, who won gold in the individual race and bronze in the H2 time trial, and Joseph Fritsch (H4).
In this mixed relay, nations can field men and women as well as athletes from different disability categories. The runners took turns on a 1.8 km circuit, which they each covered three times.
The French relay, which also included Florian Jouanny, took second place at the Tokyo Paralympic Games three years ago, behind Italy. This time, the Italians had to settle for silver at the end of the 16.2 km race, with the United States taking bronze.
The French handbike team offers a 28th medal to the French para-cycling delegation, for the last race of the cycling program of these Games. The French result is beyond the expectations of the French staff, and well above the minimum objective of 20 medals set at the start of the competition.
Adding together the track and road results, the French para-cycling team collected ten Paralympic titles, or more than half of the 18 gold medals won by the entire French delegation in Paris.
