Deauville US – A few days after being the victim of a burglary, Benoît Magimel is on stage to chair the jury of the 50th edition of the Deauville Festival

It was in a very relaxed manner that Benoît Magimel received the press this Saturday at the Deauville American Film Festival. As president of the jury for this 50th edition, he elegantly brushed aside the mention of the burglary he suffered on September 3rd, in which he was robbed, among other things, of his two Césars.

Waiting to see it in No chains, no masters by Simon Moutaïrou, in theaters on September 18 and which will be presented this Sunday in Deauville, the actor shared his passion for American cinema that he has had since childhood.

How did you discover American cinema?

I’m from the VHS generation. Our mother had us subscribed to a video club and that’s how I discovered a lot of westerns. I also saw a lot of them thanks to the Eddy Mitchell show. I dream of making a western about French shepherds who immigrated to the United States. I read articles about it and it made me want to dig deeper into the subject. I wonder what happened to them. That interests me.

What is specific about American cinema?

Americans have a unique talent for looking at their society. They have an extremely critical view of the world we live in. And they don’t wait fifty years: they(…) - 20minutes
