POLICY – “Honestly, it makes me hate it.” On Saturday, September 7, two days after Michel Barnier was appointed Prime Minister, between 110,000 and 300,000 left-wing protesters marched in several cities across France against “Macron’s coup de force”.
With some 150 planned demonstrations, the left, led by LFI, has chosen the streets as a warm-up for a political autumn that promises to be hot. According to a survey Big published Friday, 74% of French people believe that Emmanuel Macron did not take into account the results of the legislative elections when appointing Michel Barnier. For his first speech as Prime Minister, the 73-year-old political veteran advocated Thursday evening “appeasement” and the « respect ». He assured that he wanted “responding to challenges, anger, suffering” French people and promised “changes and ruptures”.
