Thus, the singer of the legendary “Sir Duke” or “I Just Call To Say I Love You” has not released an album since 2005 (“A Time To Love”) and has not performed in France since 2014. In terms of songs, his last release remains the double single “Where Is Our Love Song” and “Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fate” in 2020, two tracks on which he sang about hoping for a “better world” for humanity, in a time marked by the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests. It is on this same socio-political note that he returns today with “Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart”, his first track in four years. On this mid-tempo with a rather sunny melody, the 74-year-old artist evokes the extent to which the United States is divided by conflicts of all kinds. “Children walk down the boulevard / Tears streaming down their faces / The tension in the air is so strange / Love is gone without a trace” he sings on this track.

A committed return

The release of this hopeful track follows Stevie Wonder’s participation in the Democratic convention on August 22, which officially confirmed Kamala Harris as the candidate for the American presidential election. After performing his hit “Higher Ground,” the musician lent his support to Joe Biden’s current vice president and Donald Trump’s opponent: “This year, I have prayed very hard for peace to settle in the nations of the world, but also in each of our hearts, even though our hearts have been beaten and broken beyond prayer.
