LaLiga has authorised the registration of Dani Olmo on Monday in response to the long-term injury of Andreas Christensen, who will be out for at least four months due to Achilles tendinopathy. Despite the fact that FC Barcelona has not freed up enough salary space to register the player, which has prevented the Spanish international from playing in the first two league games against Valencia CF and Athletic Club, the club chaired by Joan Laporta has invoked article 77 to register Dani Olmo in order to cover a long-term injury such as that of the Danish centre-back.

A piece of news that Manu Carreño has spoken about on his return to El Larguero, where he has analysed with his team of collaborators what is undoubtedly one of the news of the week in the sporting field: “Finally today he has been registered. He does not appear on the league website yet, but both Barça and La Liga confirm that the player has been registered and will be able to play tomorrow. They do so in accordance with article 77, which states that the long-term injury of a player allows the team to register a new player or 80% of the salary of that injured player.”

However, there is some fine print in the signing of Dani Olmo by FC Barcelona, as Santi Ovalle explains: “This move allows for the signing of part of Olmo’s contract, which runs until 31 December. If Barça has not done the work before 31 December, that is, if it has not been able to balance the numbers and has not generated enough salary space to sign Olmo until the end of the contract, the registration will be cancelled on 1 January.” This controversy is compounded by another, as Christensen’s entourage initially said that the Danish centre-back’s injury was not for four months, but rather between one and two months: “What happens is that Barça has sent some documents to the League, some medical tests, which the medical tribunal has approved to confirm that it is a long-term injury.”

After learning the fine print regarding Dani Olmo’s signing for FC Barcelona, Manu Carreño has come to the conclusion that everything that is happening within the Blaugrana club is terrible: “But it is no longer surprising to us all. Last year it was the case of Iñigo Martínez, the year before that it was the case of Koundé, this year it was the case of Dani Olmo… the fact is that signing for Barça has become a risky option. In your contract you have to put a series of clauses among which is this one. In case you don’t sign me up, let’s see what happens.”

This is not the first time this has happened in this market.

Sique Rodríguez then went on to explain the reasons why La Liga’s medical tribunal has finally given the go-ahead for this move: “The report was signed by three Barça doctors, who say that he has an injury to his Achilles tendon. As he has been suffering from this injury for some time, the club has opted for conservative treatment that will allow him to regenerate the area with stem cells, so there is a time frame for this recovery.”

In his view, Laporta has specialised in pulling rabbits out of hats to carry out all kinds of operations: “In this summer market, Barça has already made this move again, because Iñigo Martínez is registered as a consequence of Ronald Araujo’s injury.”
