Evans slams ITIA: “A makeshift, amateur organization”

The tennis world continues to debate the recent doping case involving Jannik Sinner, and one voice out of the chorus has risen forcefully: that of Daniel EvansThe British tennis player, known for his outspokenness, made surprising statements to TheGuardian, offering a new perspective on the affair.

Evans began with words of support for his Italian colleague: “I like Jannik, what happened is not his fault.” However, he then raised a critical point about the speed with which the case was resolved: “He is lucky that his case was resolved so quickly. It is incredible that others, like Halep or Moore, took much longer in comparison.”

But it was on the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) that Evans focused his harshest criticism. With a frankness rare on the circuit, the Briton called the ITIA “an organisation created in an improvised and amateur way”. His invective did not stop there: “To be honest, I don’t think they do any good for tennis”.

Evans then touched a raw nerve in the system, highlighting what he perceives as unequal treatment: “They are harshly penalizing players who are ranked 800 for drugs or match-fixing, but they are not addressing other situations that exist on the circuit.”
These statements raise serious questions about the handling of doping cases and integrity in tennis. Evans suggests there is a broader, systemic problem that goes beyond individual cases: “It’s frustrating for tennis players, I think there is a serious problem.”
