Alexandria and the rest of the DMV region are under a a Code Orange air quality alert, meaning air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy today for sensitive groups.

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) issued the alert for today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday).

Those groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly. COG said people in those sensitive groups should make outdoor activities shorter and less intense.
