At the Bentegodi, a great goal by the Serbian opens the game on Yildiz’s invitation, the young black and white player doubles the score and Dusan closes the game once again from the penalty spot

August 26, 2024 (edit at 23:12) – VERONA

Allegri’s “short face” has been definitively archived. After the three goals against Como, Thiago Motta’s Juventus scored the same number against Verona thanks to a brace from Vlahovic (one from a penalty) and the stamp of another young debutant from the first minute in Serie A: Savona, just like Mbangula last week. Six goals in two games, Di Gregorio’s goal still untouched and first place alone. It’s only August, but we’re also talking about a team that in two months has been turned upside down from every point of view: technical, philosophical and in terms of players, many of whom are not yet usable due to injuries and last minute purchases. Encouraging signs, which will have to be confirmed on Sunday in the big match against Roma. Verona stayed in the game as long as they could: after the fireworks against Napoli, the first defeat came against the Old Lady.

Paolo Zanetti starts with Mosquera as the central striker. Thiago Motta launches the young Savona in defense from the first minute, confirms Mbangula on the left in the trio with Yildiz and Cambiaso behind Vlahovic. A bit of the heat of the Bentegodi and a bit of the attitude of the two teams, the game starts blocked and takes a while to take off. Manuel Locatelli is the one who ignites the spark after the quarter of an hour with a shot from distance: Montipò is ready, but from that moment the Bianconeri become more courageous with the ball and aggressive without it. It is no coincidence that just before the half hour, Juventus unlocks the game by taking advantage of a very precious recovery in midfield by Locatelli. The former Sassuolo player “steals” the ball from Duda and Yildiz immediately sets up Vlahovic, who beats Montipò in the area with his left foot. If the lead “frees” Juventus even more, Verona feels the blow. The doubling is in the air and arrives in the 39th minute at the end of a beautiful restart involving Locatelli, Savona, Cambiaso and Mbangula: the latter’s cross is closed by Savona with a header. Vlahovic just grazes the ball and is the first to assign the goal to his teammate, even faster than technology. “It’s yours”, Dusan shouts to Savona, confirming himself as a striker and increasingly also a team player. First as a starter in Serie A for Savona and immediately a goal. Exactly as happened last week to Mbangula, another talent launched by Next Gen and deployed without too many thoughts by Motta from the first minute. A deadly one-two, so much so that Zanetti’s team returns to the locker room without ever having tested Di Gregorio with a shot on target.

doubling dv9

If there was still hope of the Venetians reopening the match, at the start of the second half it was erased by Tchatchoua with the penalty foul committed on Mbangula (7′ st), always lively when he points to the man. Vlahovic from the penalty spot leaves no escape for Montipò. The Serbian with his personal brace anticipates the end credits and brings the Bianconeri closer to the big match on Sunday against Roma. Zanetti still tries to overturn Verona and the match with three changes at the same time (in Frese. Tengstedt, Alidou), but Juventus manages possession and the final well also thanks to the entry of an extra setter in Douglas Luiz, still in the running-in phase after arriving in Turin after the America’s Cup, the former Milan player Kalulu and Danilo. The Brazilian is not yet at his best, the latest signings have yet to make their debuts (Nico Gonzalez and Conceicao) and some other signings are on the way: starting with Koopmeiners. All reasons that increase Juventus’ optimism.
