Carabao Cup: Super Eagles star Ndidi scores first goal in Leicester City colours sporting number 6

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfried Ndidi opened his goal scoring account for the season when he scored in Leicester City’s 4-0 win over Tranmere Rovers in the second round of the Carabao Cup played on Tuesday night at the King Power Stadium.

Ahead of the start of the new season, Ndidi opted to switch his shirt number from 25 to the traditional number 6, and tonight’s clash against the Rovers marks the first time he has scored sporting his new kit number in what was his third game of the campaign.

Ghana international Jordan Ayew opened the scoring close to the end of the first half with a wonderful strike,courtesy of an assist from Harry Winks.

Stephy Mavididi doubled the lead in the 51st minute from the penalty spot when Ndidi combined with Oliver Skipp who placed a pass into the path of Ricardo Pereira who was brought down in the penalty area.

Ndidi eventually got on the scoresheet in the 71st minute, exchanging passes with Winks and Ayew before calmly dispatching the ball home.

Steve Cooper brought an end to his stay on the pitch in the 72nd minute, replacing him with young English midfielder Will Alves.

The 27-year-old has started all Leicester City’s games this season and will be hoping to play a vital role for the Foxes to preserve their stay in the English top-flight.

He has been named in the 23-man squad. for the Super Eagles 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda next month.
