An exciting start to her career for Billie du Page

After playing as the opening act for Cœur de Pirate in France, it is with Alyocha Schneider that she will share the stage when she comes to Quebec on Thursday. At 20 years old, Billie du Page is off to a rapid start in her career, having just released her first self-titled mini-album of six songs.

The singer-songwriter from Montreal made her stage debut last October by opening for Cœur de Pirate shows in Liège and Paris.

The beginnings

Billie du Page was raised in a home where music was very present. At age 4, she started piano lessons. Daughter of actress Julie du Page, she says that music played an important place in their lives.

It was mainly my mother who wanted my brother and I to be able to play the piano. It was thanks to a piano teacher, when she was 10 years old, that she began to really enjoy playing music. He showed me that I could not just do classical, but also use my voice and sing other people’s songs, sing my own songs and that’s when I started writing my songs.

The piano is my best friend because I write my songs sitting in front of it and it knows my stories. He knows when I’m doing well, when I’m not doing well. It really is my companion, my piano.

She began recording in the studio and, three years ago, signed with the management team Opak, which also looks after the careers of Patrick Watson, Elisapie and Alyosha.

Self-production

A communications student at Concordia University, Billie du Page decided to take control of her career as an artist and launch her own record label. It allows me to have control over my career, over my artistic choices, over the artists with whom I want to work.she explains.

In my family, we are a family of entrepreneurs: my grandfather, my father and my mother in a way, since when you are an artist you are your own business.

When we discuss his influences, we understand that the family environment played an important role. I listen to so much music. My parents exposed me to a lot of musical genres. That’s how I feed myself, by listening to afrobeat, world music, jazz and pop. All styles of music.

She names Angèle, Lana Del Rey as well as Depeche Mode and The The, artists of the 80s, as inspirations.

Her musical career is only just beginning and she is already planning to increase the number of shows and return to the studio in 2025.

Billie du Page will be performing at the Imperial Bell, opening for Aliocha Schneider, on Thursday, November 7.
