Melania Trump’s book cover has a feeling of déjà vu

The pre-sale of Melania Trump’s memoir has been open since Friday and already, the book is causing a stir. As The Daily Beast reports, the book’s cover has raised eyebrows among some observers, who have seen a disturbing resemblance to that of a best-selling fashion book. The work by Donald Trump’s wife is simply titled “Melania.” These letters, written in capital letters, appear in white on a black background.

This extremely simple design is furiously reminiscent of the one used for “Chanel Catwalk,” a book by French writer Patrick Mauriès released in 2020. The only differences between the two covers: the older one includes two words, and the name of the publisher (Thames & Hudson) appears at the bottom left. With millions of books published each year, the risk that some covers will look similar is certainly considerable. But if Melania Trump’s is particularly reactive, it is because the former model has already been suspected of plagiarism in the past.

Indeed, Donald Trump’s wife had hit the headlines after the 2016 Republican convention. Some passages of her speech seemed to be nothing more or less than a “copy and paste” of the one Michelle Obama had given at the Democratic convention in 2008. New controversy in 2018, when the former model presented a booklet for children against cyber-harassment. Here again, the booklet strangely resembled a brochure presented by Michelle Obama in 2014.
