In your mailbox or in your email box, the painful one arrives in the next few days.

The property tax notice will be available from this Wednesday August 28, 2024. The shipments are staggered, and the dates differ depending on whether you pay monthly or not. Here are the dates to remember.

What is property tax?

Property tax is paid by any person who owns an apartment or house on January 1st. It is a local tax, calculated on the rental value of a dwelling to which a tax percentage voted by local authorities, most of the time, the municipalities, must be applied.

From August 28th

If you have chosen to have your property tax notice online, you can consult it from this Wednesday August 28if you are not a monthly taxpayer.

If you have opted for monthly payment, it will be available from from September 20, 2024.

Please note that an email will be sent to you to inform you that the document is available. You can find it in the “Documents” tab of your Personal space.

However, if you continue to receive your notice in paper format, the notice will be sent by post between August 28 and September 20 if you are not monthly paid.

It will be between the September 23 and October 9 if you are paid monthly.

And until when to pay?

For this year 2024, the deadline for payment of property tax is set at October 20, 2024 if you pay online.

On the other hand, if you pay via another means of payment, the date is brought forward to October 15.

If you are late in paying your tax, you will have a 10% penalty of the tax due. The penalty applies if you have not paid your tax within 45 days of the collection date.

How much ?

Last May, the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) and the National Union of Real Estate Property (UNPI) announced an increase a minima of the 3.9% property tax in France.

A minimum, since in addition to this basic increase for all taxpayers, the municipalities can also adjust, if they wish, the amount of this compulsory tax.

Some owners will indeed experience a bigger increase than others. In Nice, for example, it jumped by 19.2%.
