Objective exceeded for the first edition of the Golden Flag

The first edition of the benefit tournament organized by the Thetford Golf and Curling Club, called the Drapeau d’or, raised $50,875. No fewer than 148 players gathered for the occasion on August 22.

“It was a success across the board. All our tickets were sold fairly quickly. Business people in the region, including Portes et fenêtres Isothermic and Desjardins, supported the event. Some restaurateurs were also there to offer their products,” President Marcel Groleau told Courrier Frontenac.

He took the opportunity to highlight the contribution of the City of Thetford as well as MNAs Isabelle Lecours and Luc Berthold. “Because of the upcoming projects, we will need government support. For us, their presence is important.”

It should be remembered that the golf and curling club has undertaken a shift to become a four-season sports centre and thus wishes to modernise its facilities. The funds raised through the tournament will enable various works to be carried out on the grounds starting this fall. “We want to improve and reconfigure certain sand traps, and above all make them less difficult to maintain. The goal of this project is to provide an interesting place for players and to reduce costs,” explained Mr. Groleau.

The golf tournament will return next year for a second edition. The featured company will be Mazarin, represented by its president Guy Bérard.
