The parents of young international rugby player Medhi Narjissi, who disappeared during a training camp for the French U18 team after being swept away by a wave off the coast of South Africa, spoke out on TF1.

Twenty days after the disappearance of their son, Valérie and Jalil Narjissi express their sadness. The parents of the young international rugby player Medhi Narjissi, who disappeared off the coast of South Africa on August 7 during a training camp with the French under-18 team, spoke out in an interview broadcast by TF1.

“It’s horrible. Our son left for what he loved most. Today, we have nothing left,” confides the father, Jalil Narjissi, a former player for Castres and Agen. “We don’t live, we survive,” laments the mother, who demands answers about the circumstances and responsibilities of the tragedy. “We entrust our child to them, he doesn’t come back. It’s because there was a mistake,” she says in this interview broadcast on Tuesday, August 27.

Justice seized, internal investigation opened

The 17-year-old Stade Toulousain player was swept away by strong currents while taking part in a recovery session with the French U18 team on Dias Beach near the Cape of Good Hope.

The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has opened an internal investigation, the conclusions of which are awaited by the Ministry of Sports. The FFR also announced on August 15 that the missions of the team’s management staff were temporarily suspended.

The public prosecutor of Agen was contacted by the player’s family with a view to obtaining the opening of a judicial investigation to “investigate the causes of the disappearance”.
