(Update Wednesday July 12 at 6:50 p.m.): Keolis has announced that buses and trams will stop at 9 p.m. Thursday July 13 and Friday July 14 at the request of the prefect in anticipation of possible riots. Some lines on July 14 are even limited from 6 p.m. (see box). The metro network will be extended until 2 a.m. on July 14. The F2 funicular to Fourvière is closed from 8 p.m. Thursday.

The government is preparing for possible new riots and urban violence for the weekend of July 14, 2023 several days after an initial outbreak of violence in major cities in following the death of Nahel.

Buses and trams will stop at 9 p.m.

In Lyon (Rhône), as during the riots in early July, public transport will stop earlier.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on Wednesday July 12 that the bus and the trams will stop at 10 p.m. maximum in all major French urban areas on Thursday July 13 and Friday July 14. In Lyon, it will finally be 9 p.m.

For several days, during the riots, the TCL tram and bus network had to stop earlier after the fire on a bus in and the attack on tram trains.

Subway lines spared

The lines of Metro will run until 2 a.m. Thursday July 14 and normally on July 13.

“We will ask that public surface transport stop at 10 p.m. in large urban areas, exceptions for metros and RER”, declared the Minister of the Interior during a press point where he announced a “ exceptional system” of security with 130,000 police officers and gendarmes mobilized for the National Day.

A final meeting between the Minister of the Interior and the prefects, including Fabienne Buccio, the prefect of the Rhône, is scheduled for Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

In the metropolis of Lyon, all the fireworks of July 13 and 14 are maintained.
