A mountaineer fell to her death while she was climbing the Dom via the Festigrat ridge in Valais with another person. Formal identification of the victim is underway.
The incident occurred on Monday around 10:30 a.m. The rope team was at an altitude of around 4,000 metres when, for reasons that the investigation will attempt to determine, one of the two people fell around 250 metres, the Valais cantonal police said in a press release on Tuesday.
Her companion immediately alerted the emergency services. Dispatched to the scene, they could only confirm the death of the unfortunate woman, the police continued. An investigation has been opened.
