Mariah Carey is facing a double tragedy. The singer announces that she lost her mother and her sister on the same day. She opens up about this double ordeal and the complicated relationship that united them.

This Monday, August 26, Mariah Carey revealed to the American magazine People that she had just experienced a terrible ordeal: the simultaneous loss of her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, which occurred last weekend. “My heart is broken because I lost my mother this weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away on the same day.”confided the famous 55-year-old singer.

Mariah Carey expressed gratitude for the time she was able to spend with her mother before the sad event: “I am grateful that I was able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away. I am grateful for your love and support. I would appreciate your privacy during this difficult time.”

A rainbow of emotions

She then added: “Our relationship is a prickly cord of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love binds my heart to that of my mother.”

Despite the difficulties, Mariah Carey still maintained a bond with her mother. In 2010, they shared the stage during the ABC special Mariah Carey : Merry Christmas to Youperforming together “O Come All Ye Faithful/Hallelujah Chorus”.

Her relationship with her sister Alison, however, was more strained. In her memoir, Mariah revealed that she felt it was safer for her to no longer have contact with her sister.
