The day of the celebration of Easter is generally calculated, depending on the churches, depending on the Julien or Gregorian calendar, sometimes resulting in differences of several weeks.
Pope Francis said on Saturday that the Catholic Church was ready to accept a unique date for Easter, while this religious holiday is often celebrated on different dates according to the religious calendars used. “The Catholic Church is willing to accept the date that everyone wants, a date of the unit”he said by improvising and deviating from the text of his homily pronounced during the mass concluding the week of prayer for the unity of Christians.
“Providentially, Easter will be celebrated this year the same day in the Gregorian calendar and Julien, precisely during this ecumenical anniversary”said the Pope in reference to the Council of Nicea, which took place 1,700 years ago and was considered the first council aimed at solving the problems between the different churches.
“I renew my call so that this coincidence serves as a reminder to all Christians to take a decisive step towards unity, around a common date for Easter”concluded the head of the Catholic Church.
