Moscow is open to negotiations on Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

Moscow, January 24 (Xinhua) – Moscow is open to negotiations on Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

“We have always said it, and I would like to emphasize it once again, we are ready for negotiations on the Ukrainian issue,” said Putin.

At the same time, the Russian president said that certain questions require special attention. He recalled that, previously, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky had published a decree prohibiting such negotiations.

“How can negotiations now resume that they have been prohibited?” Asked Mr. Putin, adding that if the negotiations resumed, they would be illegitimate with regard to the current legal framework of Ukraine.

Mr. Putin said that as long as the decree remains in force, it will be difficult to speak of the possibility of starting these negotiations or carrying them out. He added that if certain preliminary discussions can take place, it would be difficult to carry out serious negotiations given the existing ban imposed by the Ukrainian party.

The Russian leader said that Mr. Zelensky “was not in a hurry” to lift the decree prohibiting negotiations, and that he followed the orders of his sponsors. He added that those who finance kyiv should put pressure on the Ukrainian leader to do it.

During his speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Thursday, American president Donald Trump said that the efforts of the United States to obtain a peace regulation between Russia and Ukraine were “in progress with Hope “, adding that Ukraine was ready to conclude an agreement.
