The sudden stop of the Canadian subsidy of $ 5,000 for the purchase of an electric vehicle has forced several consumers and automakers to review their plans. Companies such as Hyundai, Volkswagen, Nissan, Ford and General Motors have in turn decided to compensate for the loss of this financial aid by allocating an equivalent discount, at least until January 31, 2025.

After this date, it will be finished, like the provincial subsidy of the Quebec Roulez Green program.

Hope is that the industry adjusts by lowering the prices of electric vehicles, especially in a context where demand is not as strong as they hoped and where the prices of certain dealers are full. However, the opposite is now that occurs at Tesla.

Let’s start with its best seller, the Model Model Y. No longer needing to respect the limit of $ 60,000 in the federal incentive program, the propulsion basic version has just increased from $ 59,990 to $ 60,990 (PDSF ). The one with full cog also increases by $ 1,000 to be $ 64,990. Ditto for the performance version, which now costs $ 69,990.

We are talking about the same vehicle here as before and not the modernized 2025 model which recently made its debut in other markets and which will arrive with us soon.

Tesla has increased all versions of the Model 3 sedan by $ 1000. The one with propulsion jumps at $ 55,990, while the full cog equivalent increases to $ 60,990. As for the Model 3 Performance, now count $ 70,990.

More salty increases come

No price adjustment was made to Model S, Model X and Cybertruck, since these three vehicles were not eligible anyway to the Ottawa subsidy.

Speaking of the cybertruck, more affordable versions are still long in the Canadian market, unlike the United States where Tesla has also started to lower prices due to a surplus inventory. Only copies of the Foundation Series are available currently, with prices of $ 137,990 and $ 165,990 depending on the engine.

But beware: on her website, Tesla Canada announces that new price increases will come into effect on 1is February, without however giving any explanations for the moment. The Model 3 will increase by up to $ 9,000, nothing less, while Model Y, Model S and Model X will increase by up to $ 4,000. In the case of the first, it may hurt him in terms of sales … and give a boost to the competition.
