“We must be able to pay at the toll with our phone,” announces Emmanuel Macron on TikTok

In a video published on his TikTok account, on the evening of Wednesday January 22, 2025, Emmanuel Macron reacted to the controversy sparked by the verbalization of several Internet users having used their phone to pay their toll.

“In 2025, we must be able to pay at tolls with our phone”spoke the head of state in front of the camera on the social network. Emmanuel Macron also announces that the file has been sent to the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, to change the regulations.

In recent days, in a video with several million views, a young videographer denounced “the withdrawal of three license points and a fine of 90 euros” while he paid his motorway fares with his phone. The Highway Code provides that “the use of a telephone held in the hand by the driver of a vehicle in circulation is prohibited”. The young man was therefore very much at fault.
