Two months before the municipal elections, the acquisition of the Villa Masset unleashes passions. At issue: the cost of 22 million invested by the city of Geneva in order to acquire the 34,000 m plot2 belonging to Titeuf’s father, Philippe Chappuis, alias Zep. This decision startled the right-wing minority, defeated in the Municipal Council, which is roaming the streets these days with a view to a referendum.
This estate is made up of a listed 18th century mansion, a swimming pool, a water tower, vineyards, forest and a meadow. The sloping land is located in the Saint-Jean-Aïre district, and borders the promenade along the Rhône. Rather than the villa, it is the park which represents the “immediate interest” of this purchase, defended the Administrative Council in its presentation to the Finance Commission. It is supported by heritage associations and environmentalists, who repeat that this purchase represents a unique opportunity to create a green setting in a dense neighborhood.
