The Citizen’s Club for Justice and Peace, based in Bordeaux, sent a new open letter to President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar FAYE, reiterating its request for the extradition of former President Macky Sall as well as his close collaborators.
In this letter, the club welcomes the initial reforms undertaken by the new regime, particularly in matters of justice and the fight against corruption. However, he believes that the extradition of Macky Sall would send a strong signal of a break with past practices and would contribute to the establishment of a solid rule of law, reports Exclusive.
The authors of the letter recall the serious accusations against the ex-president, such as human rights violations, corruption and manipulation of institutions. They emphasize that these acts fully justify the opening of legal proceedings.
To support their request, the Citizen’s Club suggests several measures, including the activation of the extradition convention between Senegal and Morocco. He also proposes the creation of a “Truth and Reconciliation Commission” and the establishment of guarantees to guarantee a fair trial. The club finally pleads for the adoption of a specific penal statute for former presidents.
