This announcement is already making people cringe. In the morning of TF1, Tuesday January 21, the Minister responsible for Labor and Employment, Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet, proposed taxing a portion of retirees: “Taxes and contributions could be considered on retirees who can afford them, depending on the pension level. »
The goal would be to be able to finance the autonomy branch of social protection. Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet detailed that these “taxes and contributions” could apply to French people whose retirement pension exceeds 2,000 euros, or even 2,500 euros per month. According to the minister, this measure must be “discussed with parliamentarians” and could be added to the Senate's proposal to work seven additional hours, unpaid, for employees.

Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet's idea is already widely criticized. Questioned by BFMTV, retirees denounced the measure: “I didn't contribute for 40 years so that it would benefit others, we can find money elsewhere”, “it's ridiculous to tax retirees, they have worked enough in their lives”, “We “We’re fed up, we’ve worked all our lives to have a decent retirement”…

“At 2,000 euros of retirement, we are not rich”
Invited in turn on the morning show of TF1, this Wednesday, January 22, the deputy of the National Rally (RN), Sébastien Chenu, recalled that a retiree earning 2,000 euros in pension could not be considered rich: “This government will have to land. Taxing retirees who have 2,000 euros of pension seems totally scandalous to me. At 2,000 euros of retirement, we are not rich. » The vice-president of the RN even warned that it was a “red line”threatening the government with censorship. “Today, we didn’t talk about it as censorship. But I am in favor of not letting this happen”he said.
-The boss of E.Leclerc, Michel-Edouard Leclerc was also opposed to it: “I don't think it's a good solution to indict even wealthier categories. » Instead, he called for “transfer contributions to work competitors”, namely in the sectors of robotics, digital, artificial intelligence or even low-cost imported products.

The minister's idea was poorly received even in her own camp. Macronist parliamentarians and Republicans (LR), part of the government coalition, were opposed to the measure. This is particularly the case of the Renaissance deputy, Mathieu Lefèvre, who pointed out a “anti-work idea”.
Faced with the outcry, the executive dissociated itself from Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet's comments. The spokesperson, Sophie Primas, assured that it was not a question “not (the) government’s position at this stage”she declared during a press conference after the Council of Ministers this Wednesday, January 22.
