As good as what is often considered the best gaming CPU on the market… but not necessarily better for this particular use. This is what we learn from an intervention by Martijn Boonstra, who spoke with the specialized site VideoGamer about the brand new Ryzen 9 9950X3D, presented at CES.

Regarding this new X3D processor, AMD’s Product and Business Development Manager soberly indicated that it “ will deliver similar overall gaming performance to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D “. Players who were hoping to be able to rely on an even more powerful chip for their favorite activity could therefore be disappointed.

No particular added value compared to the 9800X3D at stake?

Logically, the real added value of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D (and its little brother the 9900X3D) will be mainly observable in creative use, and for certain very specific heavy calculations. For gamers, and obviously in the majority of cases, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will therefore remain a real nec plus ultra.

As a reminder, the 9950X3D offers a maximum frequency of 5.7 GHz in boost and includes no less than 144 MB of second generation V-cahce memory. The 9800X3D sticks to 5.2 GHz boost and “only” 104 MB of V-Cache.

At the same time, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D also has 8 additional cores and a total of 16 more threads compared to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Hearts which will obviously be of little use in the game in the end, at least if we stick to what Martijn Boonstra tells us.

Finally, note that, for the time being, AMD has not yet announced a precise price for its powerful Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The brand assures that this information will be communicated when we approach the launch, expected in March 2025, without further details.
