1.4 billion travelers in 2024, a post-pandemic record

In 2024, 1.4 billion tourists traveled abroad, which represents an increase of 11% compared to 2023, according to an estimate published Monday by UN Tourism. As for tourism revenues, they reached $1.6 trillion, exceeding pre-pandemic levels, by +3% compared to 2023 and more than +4% compared to 2019, a sign of a complete recovery of the sector.

Europe, the world leader in tourism, recorded 747 million international arrivals in 2024, while the Middle East (+32%) and North Africa (+22%) showed impressive growth. Asia-Pacific saw growth of 33% in 2024, although arrivals remain below pre-pandemic levels.

UN Tourism forecasts additional growth of 3 to 5% in 2025, while calling for responsible and sustainable tourism development in the face of climate and social challenges.
