During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the Riu Baobab hotel, located in Pointe Séréne on Petite-Côte, was the target of an armed attack. According to a source close to the establishment, the criminals managed to take away 12,100,000 CFA francs.
Around twenty criminals, armed with hunting rifles, stormed the hotel. Their main target was the reception where they collected the money. In their escape, the attackers tried to use a hotel bus, but were intercepted by the gendarmes at the exit.
During their confrontation with the police, the criminals opened fire, but the gendarmes returned fire, forcing the attackers to retreat inside the hotel. Despite the establishment being cordoned off by the gendarmes, the criminals managed to escape by cutting the barbed wire and taking refuge in the neighboring forest.
No injuries were reported to hotel staff or law enforcement. The criminals managed to escape, leaving their equipment behind. An investigation has been opened to shed light on this audacious attack.
