An outcome in four months? At the end of the first meeting on Friday on pensions at the Ministry of Labor, François Bayrou set “Fine May” the objective of an agreement between the social partners on pensions, estimating “unimaginable that this problem, so important for French society, could be resolved solely through a showdown”. “This idea that they are going to share months and months of work, for me, it’s a fruitful idea”he rejoiced, deploring the state of “general blocking” in which is located. “We are a country which does not have a budget, we are a country which does not have a majority, we are a country in which some people constantly clash with others. […] and we can’t stop there because in the meantime, the world is besieging us”he said.

“64 years old is no!”

For the general secretary of the CGT, Sophie Binet, this first meeting was “the opportunity to see the extent of the disagreements”. “The trade union organizations all spoke out to denounce the 64-year-olds” and demand the repeal of the reform, she said at the end of the meeting. “Today's meeting confirmed that the page on mobilization has not been turned and that pension reform cannot remain as it is.”

For her part, CFDT number 1 Marylise Léon reaffirmed that it was necessary “a change in the legal age” retirement. According to her, this first round table was an opportunity to “set the frame”. “We have always been extremely clear. 64 years old is no. So there is a subject there. We need to change the legal age”declared Marylise Léon, who also highlighted the issue of arduous work and gender equality. “We set the framework, many elements of method and subject that can be invoked by everyone. Me, I am optimistic”added the general secretary of the first French union.
