Los Angeles 2028: Trump wants to make “the biggest Games” in history

President-elect Donald Trump has thrown his support behind the 2028 Los Angeles Games leaders to stage “the biggest Games” in history, despite challenges raised by recent fires that hit the city.

Casey Wasserman, president of the organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games, met with Trump on Wednesday at his Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago, the Axios news site reported Thursday.

“These are America’s Games,” Trump told Wasserman. They are more important than ever for LA and I will support you in every way possible to make them the greatest Games in history.

Los Angeles has been plagued by fires for ten days which have killed at least 24 people and destroyed more than 12,000 buildings for damage estimated at tens of billions of dollars. The disaster sparked some criticism of the Californian megacity’s ability to stage the 2028 Olympics safely, although no competition sites were affected.

“I welcome President-elect Trump’s support for Los Angeles in the midst of our region’s devastation,” Wasserman told Axios.
