Elon Musk’s company lost all contact with the second stage of its megarocket following an “anomaly”.
SpaceX succeeded on Thursday in catching up with the first stage of its Starship megarocket after a new test flight, a technical feat that it had so far only achieved once.
After the separation of the two stages of the rocket, the booster named Super Heavy descended in a controlled manner towards the launch pad and was immobilized by mechanical arms installed on the launch tower, nicknamed “the wands”, according to the video broadcast of the company.

Elon Musk’s company, however, lost all contact with the second stage of its megarocket following an “anomaly”, a company official announced during a video broadcast. Several images are circulating on social networks showing debris from the SpaceX test flight.
“We lost all communication with the ship (…) this clearly indicates to us that there was an anomaly with the upper stage,” declared Dan Huot, before another SpaceX manager confirmed that they had indeed “lost the ship”.
