On Thursday, the Federal Court rejected the appeal of the Animal Equity association, which requested suspensive effect on a decision of the Geneva Council of State planning to regulate the deer population in the canton. Consequently, the State can proceed today with the slaughter of around forty deer considered to be surplus and threatening the agricultural crops which adjoin the Versoix woods. Thus authorized, the shooting window, so to speak, extends until January 31 under the government decree taken last August. There are therefore only two weeks left to apply it, whereas a period of three months was initially planned. Therefore, “only part of the regulation” envisaged can take place, specifies the State of Geneva in a press release released immediately.
