“The accumulation of facts” committed by Abbé Pierre “horrifies” the Church of France

The CEF “thinks with immense sorrow” of all the victims and it “encourages anyone attacked” to “contact, if they wish, one of the Church’s listening or support systems” or “of the system put in place by Emmaüs”.

Abbé Pierre targeted by nine new accusations of sexual violence

The report from the specialized firm Egaé specifies that the facts targeting Abbé Pierre “took place from the 60s to the 2000s, most of the time in and sometimes abroad”. This brings to 33 the number of testimonies targeting the priest who died in 2007.

“Realizing that he used his media aura and the social work he had built (…) to sexually abuse women, children, and people in precarious situations is appalling. To all, the Conference of Bishops expresses its closeness,” affirms the Church in its press release.

Reiterating its “determination” that “all possible truth be revealed about the crimes committed by Abbé Pierre and the silences from which he could have benefited”, the CEF recalls the provision of its archives to the members of the Historical Commission announced by Emmaüs, and “its availability vis-à-vis the judicial authorities if necessary”.
