The suspension of pension reform is at the heart of discussions between Prime Minister François Bayrou and the left-wing parties in order to avoid censorship, on the eve of his general policy declaration. The president of the Republicans of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, believes on France Inter on Monday January 13 that a step backwards “would be the triumph of demagoguery and irresponsibility”.

According to the elected official, it would be a decision “demagogic” car and “it is mostly rejected by the French” It is “because there are a certain number of political parties, whether on the left or in the National Rally, which tell the French what they want to hear”. According to her, “a statesman is not someone who thinks about the next election, he is not someone who tries to make himself popular to win an election” but “someone who works for the future generations”.

Working longer, explains Valérie Pécresse, is “a purely arithmetic and demographic decision”. However, she believes that François Bayrou “can go see the Socialist Party and tell them that this reform is not perfect, that there are subjects on which we can rework, in particular arduousness, women's careers, the employment of seniors or long careers “. She deplores that the PS is doing “a kind of blackmail saying: it's that or nothing.”

If the Prime Minister follows Olivier Faure's request, “especially in these conditions, the right can no longer participate in this government, because it is a government which would go against the values it carries, the values of responsibility and towards the generations that follow us”.
