Boualem Naman, the Algerian influencer known as “Doualem” whom France had arrested on Tuesday and expelled to Algeria, returned to France since Thursday evening, was placed in an administrative detention center. Algiers had refused to welcome him on its territory, causing a new rise in tensions in the diplomatic crisis.
His placement in an administrative detention center is contested by his lawyer. The hearing took place this Sunday, January 12 before the judge of freedoms and detention in Seine-et-Marne in Mesnil-Amelot. Justice did not rule in his favor: On the contrary, she has just validated the extension of her placement in detention.
Man can therefore be held for another 26 days before another possible extension, the maximum being 90 days. Everything happened this morning in a small room a few meters from the detention center, at the foot of the runways of Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. The influencer, surrounded by police officers, only had to take a footbridge to arrive in front of the journalists.
In front of the judge, this father of two children stammered that he was sorry for the situation. “What is the point of this retention?”, his lawyer asked in substance, “when we know full well that he cannot be expelled, since Algeria has already refused him once“. Arguments brushed aside by the prefecture which stuck to recalling that the video of this man constituted a call for violence and threats to public order, and that there was an urgent need to expel him.
The Algerian could go up on a flight from next Wednesday. Her lawyer has already announced that she is appealing this decision.
