A rural building burned on Sunday morning in Peney-le-Jorat (VD) and the intervention of firefighters was still underway at the start of the evening. One person was taken to hospital in shock and another suffered a minor arm injury. Around thirty cattle were killed.
At least twenty people in the neighborhood had to be evacuated as a precaution. The fire caused a strong smell of smoke.
Transported by the wind, the volutes saturated the atmosphere and reached the towns located south of the village of Gros-de-Vaud. The displaced residents were able to find refuge in the community hall, open for the occasion.
Around thirty cattle perished in the flames, according to the police. An investigation must determine the cause of the disaster.
