How do you feel when you are here in Belgium or and your house is there? Are we worried? Do we make phone calls all the time?

“I should feel safe being here, but actually I feel very uncomfortable not being there to help when it’s unbreathable and it’s complicated. J I want to be there. I want to go and bring things to the firefighters. I want to help the friends who lost their homes. Besides, my house is full of friends who came. settle in while waiting because I’m not here. and they lost everything.”

“My house was threatened”

Is your house not threatened?

“Mine is towards Hollywood. It was threatened. We were on alert until the day before yesterday (Wednesday, Editor’s note). They evacuated and then it was lifted. It’s one of the rare fires they have managed to bring it under control, luckily it was next to the Sunset Fire.”

There is also the house of your ex-husband Patrick Bruel. Do you have any news?

“Unfortunately, the house was completely destroyed by the flames. It’s very difficult because beyond a house, there are things that we cannot replace that have disappeared. The memories we have of the moments lived in this house, but also the photos of my children, their cuddly toys. These are things that seem anecdotal but are what we think about when we lose a place. It’s very violent.

“It’s the worst fire there’s ever been.”

Is it what we cannot buy back, what is not replaceable, what has emotional value?

“Six years ago, I had to evacuate when there were fires. I remember what I put in my suitcase. There was nothing of value except for me. That’s often when we realize the true value of things.”

This isn’t the first time Los Angeles has been engulfed in flames, is something really different this time?

“It’s the worst fire there has ever been. There are different blazes, very distant, which makes people start to ask questions. Is it a coincidence? complete or not? We’ll see that in the coming weeks. I think they arrested people. Is there an arsonist? is chance, I don’t think so… I hope that we will know. There were winds of more than 160 km/h, added to the drought. Now, it has calmed down. We have some hope of controlling the fire. ‘make arrangements with a president who doesn’t believe in global warming.’

Does that worry you too?

(She looks at the images of Donald Trump which are playing at that moment on the LN24 screens) “Yes, that really worries me. I never thought that the United States is a perfect country. We know its limits and what’s fantastic about it too. What I see, at least in California, and which is very beautiful, is the immediate solidarity, how things fell into place, the people who came to help. California is very different from the federal state Trump does. does not carry in his heart because we did not vote for him in California And there has been a kind of violence for a long time between Trump and California. quite assertive, anti-Trump manner.”

Are you dreading returning to Los Angeles and finding out what’s left?

“I’ve already seen photos, there’s not much left. My children are going to come home before me and I think it’s good that they have a little time to grieve in their heads before doing so physically, but what worries me is not losing a house, it’s saying everything around is devastated so that people realize what has been devastated is bigger. that Manhattan is a whole world: schools, businesses,… It’s an entire city! I wonder what’s going to happen. I can’t even figure out what to do, in what order, at what speed. beyond my skills. It’s a tragedy, a real tragedy…”
