President Museveni is calling for the mobilization of NRM activists for the updating of the electoral register, the first step in a process which should lead to general elections in early 2026.
Uganda begins this Tuesday an important phase of preparation for the general elections scheduled for early 2026, with the launch of an operation to verify and update the electoral lists which will take place until January 10.
In a letter addressed to the executives of the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) of which he is also the leader, President Yoweri Museveni, calls for a general mobilization to ensure that all activists are registered on the electoral lists .
This operation, announced by the National Electoral Commission, aims in particular to remove deceased people and to register new voters who have reached the age of 18. The lists will be displayed in all polling stations across the country to allow citizens to verify their registration.
« I call on all NRM leaders and supporters to actively participate in this verification operation“, underlined President Museveni in his missive, which also sets the course towards the presidential, legislative and local elections scheduled for early 2026.
This phase of verification of electoral lists marks the official start of the electoral process in this East African country, which President Museveni has led without interruption since 1986.
