If some watch brands are more than two centuries old, Vacheron Constantin for example, the emblematic luxury watch models are much younger.
One of the oldest is probably the Rolex Datejust born in 1945, forty years after the birth of the crown brand.
In the year 2025, many timepiece models which have – or been able to – pass the years and established themselves as essentials on the market, will therefore celebrate their anniversaries.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of the main watchmaking celebrations of 2025.
As previously stated, the oldest iconic watch is probably the famous Datejust the Rolex born in 1945. A sport-chic watch par excellence which has become a great classic of modern watchmaking. How will the crown brand celebrate these 80 springs? Mystery.
Another 70-year-old “old lady”, theEngineer the IWC whose reference 666 was launched on the market in 1955. Please note, this is not the model designed by Gerald Genta, the SL Jumbo which was marketed in 1976.
Another septuagenarian – and not the least -, the Rolex GMT Master also born in 1955. It is difficult to imagine a revolution in this area since the Geneva manufacture has already worked quite a bit on this reference in recent years, new designs, new caliber, etc.
Perhaps we can imagine an RLX titanium piece that Rolex seems to be integrating little by little into its collections. Not to mention that a titanium watch for a pilot’s watch would be quite logical.
The year 2025 will be an opportunity to celebrate the jubilee of a beautiful fifty-year-old: the Laureate from Girard-Perregaux.
The Laureato is one of those sporty-chic steel watches with an integrated bracelet very typical of the 70s, and for good reason, it was born in 1975. Just like the Royal Oak (1972), the Nautilus (1976) and a few others which date of the same period.
However, this watch has always struggled to find a “place in the sun” compared to its competitors deemed – rightly or wrongly – more sexy by connoisseurs. Even still today. Let us hope that GP will be able to seize the opportunity of this jubilee to properly commemorate these 50 springs.
Another fifty-year-old, the famous Bvlgari Bvlgari born in 1975 but which will be launched on the market, officially in 1977. Bvlgari Bvlgari: 14 letters engraved on the bezel for one of these timeless models which cross the decades without aging, to which we owe the design, once again, to the famous Gérald Genta.
For the record, you should know that originally in 1975, this very “Roman” inspired gold model was intended to be offered to the hundred best clients of the Italian jeweler. There was a two-hand version and a digital quartz version.
Another anniversary to be expected at IWC this year with the famous Da Vinci Chronograph Perpetual Calendar (1985) which will celebrate its fortieth anniversary. This invention by Kurt Klaus is still considered a major milestone in the history of watchmaking.
Ingeniously simple, this calendar is made up of only 81 parts and has brought the Schaffhausen watch manufacture to the summit of Haute Horlogerie. What does the Schaffhausen factory have in store for us for this anniversary?
A little younger, but also emblematic, the famous Omega Seamaster Diver 300 by James Bond presented in 1995 in the film Goldeneye, a diver who marked a turning point in the series since the famous spy who wore -almost- only Rolexes will henceforth wear only Omega watches!
Small clarification all the same: the Seamaster Professional 300M, which was originally available in quartz or automatic version, made its first dive in 1993 before becoming famous throughout the world on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye in 1995. This year, it is therefore the thirtieth anniversary of James Bond’s Seamaster Diver 300.
Closer to us finally, the clock Big Bang d’Hublot which was relaunched in April 2005 by Jean-Claude Biver. With this new design and this “fusion” concept, JCB will revitalize a sleeping beauty with the success that it still enjoys two decades later. More incidentally, 2025 also celebrates twenty years of Lange & Söhne, Lange 1 Time Zones.
