Like every year, Objectif Gard asks local personalities to take stock of the past year and then look forward to the new one. Today, it is municipal and departmental elected official Vincent Bouget.
What was your best memory in 2024?
Vincent Bouget: The Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Without forgetting the negative aspects of such an event, I enjoyed seeing these four weeks of international sports meetings, the exchanges between athletes from around the world, the shared exploits, the positive collective emotions and the openness that our country has shown. demonstrate. We had in the department of preparatory events for the Games which will remain very fond memories.
Your worst memory?
Repeated manifestations of racism and anti-Semitism. If I think that overall mentalities are evolving rather positively and that young people are more tolerant, I no longer support stigma linked to skin color or religion, racism and discrimination. Far too many of our fellow citizens suffer from it on a daily basis.
Who do you think was the personality of the year?
Gisèle Pélicot without a doubt. Through her story, her immense courage and her great dignity, she has become, despite herself of course, an international symbol of victims of rape and more broadly of violence against women. Here again, there is still a way to go. It is everyone's job, in families, at school, in public institutions. I take this opportunity to salute the useful work of feminist associations which work tirelessly for equality.
What will it be in 2025?
Impossible to say, unless you read into a crystal ball. The context is far too uncertain. And in any case, each of us writes our part of history and everything will contribute to the common good.
What do you think will be the event of 2025?
The one I wish for instead… peace. In Ukraine, as in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world. Peace is a lasting political project. But first, the guns must be silenced, the massacres must stop. The fate of the people of Gaza is absolutely unacceptable. People must live free and in security. Ukraine must regain its sovereignty. In the Middle East, international recognition, particularly by France, of the State of Palestine, alongside Israel, would be an important political step.
