The old building of the former Point P Fettig, 550 m² built in the 1960s on a plot of land of just over one hectare in Saint-Martin-de-Ré, seems to sail like a drunken boat between vineyards and municipal cemetery. Like a concrete recumbent figure of which we do not know what to do as its silhouette does not encourage contemplation.

In October 2023, departmental advisors Véronique Richez-Lerouge and Patrice Raffarin harbored hopes of reconquest of this property acquired for 780,000 euros in 2014 by the Department, “for its dual interest due to its nature and its location”, specified the advisor in reading the presentation by Jean-Louis Frot who already described this ensemble as “unsightly”. It was then a question of a vast project focused on the environment with an in-depth rehabilitation of the building to make it a space for soft mobility and mediation.

A €1.8 million project

But the weakened warehouse requires “work to consolidate the structure, asbestos removal, tile roofing”, she listed before announcing the color: “After the technical studies, we arrive at a budget of 5 million euros for the entire project. » Unthinkable for the councilors: “We are careful with public money, including when it concerns the ecotax budget”, they continued before specifying that they would now favor the demolition of this “wart” in the landscape. And to draw up a new hypothesis for the future of the wasteland, after a “very short” consultation period with the town hall of Saint-Martin and the community of communes, “for opinion but we will not wait 6 months for the response” , slipped the advisor.

This time it is an environmental project worth 1.8 million euros with a landscaped car park for 220 spaces, a space dedicated to recharging electric vehicles, a shaded relaxation area (picnic – space for repairs bicycles – wooden games), “and we want to create a conservatory of botanical species from the Ile de Ré in connection with Ré nature environment,” added Véronique Richez-Lerouge. The objective is for this project to be completed by 2026-2027.
