At least eleven people – including the Hamas police chief – were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Palestinian territory.

Israel increased its attacks on Thursday. Gaza Civil Defense said two more strikes came later in other areas of the Palestinian territory caused the death of 14 people. Strikes not commented on by Israel.

His army, however, confirmed having carried out a night strike in the region of Khan Younesin the southern Gaza Strip, saying it targeted deputy police chief Hussam Shahwan because of his alleged role in planning attacks against Israeli troops.

The operation left eleven dead and fifteen injured, according to the Civil Defense press release. Among those killed were the police chief, Mahmoud Salah, and his deputy, Hussam Shahwan.

He said Salah had spent 30 years in the police force and was appointed to lead them six years ago.

Hamas, for its part, said the strike was a continuation of Israel’s “genocidal war against defenseless civilians.”

Elsewhere in the Gaza Strip, Civil Defense reported thata strike on Jabaliain the north, left at least 10 dead.

In addition, four other people died in a raid, according to Civil Defense. (ats/vz)
