Isabelle M., a 51-year-old home helper, was killed by her husband on the night of December 31 to January 1, 2025. Her entire body was covered in bruises.

“I did something stupid. » It was with these words that a father living in Hautmont alerted the emergency services, Wednesday January 1, after beating to death his partner, Isabelle M., 51 years old. When they arrived, around 3 a.m., firefighters discovered the inanimate body of this home helper, naked and covered in bruises. According to 3 -Pas-de-, the victim's face was also swollen.

The man was taken into custody, where he allegedly mentioned an argument over adultery. According to the first elements collected by our colleagues, the couple had two adult children and was described by a neighbor as “discreet”. The latter nevertheless stressed to France 3 that he had been hearing “arguments for a month” and according to several witnesses heard by “La Voix du Nord”, emergency services had already gone to the couple's home at the end of the year.

“Her name was Isabelle. She was 51 years old and the mother of two children. She was killed this morning by her partner. This is the first feminicide of 2025, already one too many,” reacted Aurore Bergé, Minister of Equality between Women and Men, on X. “The government’s determination is total to stem this scourge. And all means will be mobilized,” she added, promising to go there “in the very next few days”.

On Facebook, the mayor of the town, Stéphane Wilmotte, was concerned about a “rise in intra-family and marital violence” in his town, calling for “support from the State” in order to obtain more “means to avoid such tragedies”. “This tragedy reminds us of the urgency of fighting all forms of violence, in particular intra-family and marital violence,” he insists, while as of December 31, 2024, the NousToutes association counted 133 feminicides since the start of the year.
