Swiss International Air Lines announced this Monday the death of the cabin crew member of the Swiss Airbus A220 which made an emergency landing on December 23 in Graz, Austria. “At this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest compassion are with the loved ones and friends of our dear colleague,” the airline said in a statement posted on LinkedIn.
The flight, which carried 74 passengers and five crew members from Bucharest to Zurich, encountered technical problems leading to the presence of smoke in the cockpit and cabin. The passengers had to evacuate the plane via the emergency slides after landing. The next day, almost all the passengers had been repatriated to Switzerland.
Twelve passengers and four crew members received medical treatment, including one cabin crew member transferred by helicopter to intensive care. Swiss already said he was “deeply concerned” about his state of health.
The Austrian Security Investigation Service (SUB) and the local public prosecutor’s office had carried out an on-site inspection. A technical team from Swiss also quickly went to Graz shortly after the incident, where they detected a technical problem with the device.
