Should we go for the PS5 Pro at 370 euros from Micromania?

Micromania is launching one of its console trade-in offers for which the brand has the secret. Enough to pay for a PS5 Pro at only 370 euros, in exchange for a PlayStation 5. A good deal?

The PlayStation 5 Pro is the most powerful gaming console on the market by far. And for good reason, Microsoft has chosen not to launch a mid-generation Xbox console.

However, the PlayStation 5 Pro struggled to convince us due to its very high selling price. At 799 euros without a base or physical disk drive, the PS5 Pro represents quite an investment.

This is where the offer from Micromania arrives, very interesting on paper. The brand offers to lower the bill by up to 370 euros.

Switch from PS5 to PS5 Pro

As Micromania is accustomed to, this is a trade-in offer: a purchase of a PS5 Pro in exchange for your old game console.

On paper, the offer is particularly interesting if you have a PlayStation 5, as indicated Numerama. In fact, Micromania will take back your console for 430 euros. Or only 70 euros less than its launch price.

If you had a PS5 when it launched in 2020, such a trade-in price four years later is unexpected. Playing the PS5 for four years will only cost you 70 euros.

The Micromania trade-in offer

But there you have it, the wolf is hiding in the premise of this juicy offer. To be able to buy a PS5 Pro for 370 euros, you must already have a PS5.

The question becomes: is the difference between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro worth 370 euros? And again, we assume that you have a library of digital games. If you need the disk drive, you have to manage to find it (it has been out of stock for several months), and add 120 euros to the bill. A total of 490 euros for a mid-generation update.

Conversely, it should be noted that the PS5 Pro includes 2 TB of basic storage, compared to 825 GB for the 2020 PS5 and 1 TB for the PS5 Slim.

Adding a 1TB NVME SSD from a classic PS5 represents an additional cost of around 70 to 100 euros. An additional cost absorbed in the 370 euros of switching to the PS5 Pro therefore.

No exclusive games

Since we are talking about a mid-generation console, the game library is entirely the same on both consoles. The PS5 Pro is not entitled to any exclusivity that the original PlayStation 5 will not have.

It can simply run them better, if the developer has properly optimized their game, especially if you have a or a 4K video projector.

For games like Alan Wake 2, the experience is really improved by upgrading to the PS5 Pro. We can then take advantage of the ray tracing and a higher rendering definition, remaining at 30 frames per second.

Bigger upcoming games like GTA 6 should also benefit from the extra power of the PS5 Pro, but it’s impossible to predict to what extent. The PS5 Pro should not represent more than 10 to 15% of the installed base at the end of the generation. Optimization for the platform is therefore not necessarily the priority of developers.

Who is this offer interesting for?

In the end, we say that Micromania’s offer is really interesting for aficionados of the PlayStation brand who have a 4K display, who want to play in the best possible conditions, with a large budget and who have already migrated to the dematerialized game (so they will not need the disc reader).

For the others, we say to ourselves that the 370 to 490 euros budget will undoubtedly be better invested in a future Nintendo Switch 2 which should show up from one month to the next.
