Since the 2001 winter meeting, the Yvonnick Bodin Prize has traditionally paid tribute to the young apprentice of Jean-Étienne Dubois who died in a tragic fall on the Cabourg racecourse the previous summer while he was starting out in the race. An event which always conveys a lot of emotion and which the coaches prepare carefully each winter. We particularly remember the words of Yvonnick Bodin’s uncle, Laurent-Claude Abrivard, after his success with Brillant Madrik in 2021. “In my heart, this race is just as important as a Prix de Cornulier.” Everything is said…
Many (very) good horses have won this event. There we find, in fact, the names ofItalica Gédé, Legs du Clos, Kevisa, Melodie Jénilou, Negre du Digeon, Oyonnax, Quemeu d’Ecublei, Quarry Bay, Arlington Dream or Esparanza Idole among others. And what about the future apprentices who have made this group III their own since the list of winners includes Matthieu Abrivard, Nathalie Henry, Damien Bonne, Camille Levesque, Antoine Wiels and Alexandre Abrivard who all subsequently won at the highest level and became professionals that we know.
The 2024 edition promises to be very open. It can be a day of glory for Benjamin Chauve-Laffay and Inès Fraigne who have 49 successes each and can therefore go professional in this major event associated with Undefeated Madiba and to Filou d’Anjou (second in 2023).
It may also be memorable for Cléa Roger (Dollar Passion), Emma Lacomblez (Flask) or Justin Maillard (Fluo Meslois), who have never yet passed the pole in the lead in the temple of trotting.
As for Mathilde Colas (Guide Moi Forgan) and to Estelle Croisic (Heuristic), they will try to imitate Camille Levesque who has the particularity of being the only apprentice to have won this race twice thanks to kevisa (2005) and Quarry Bay (2012).
Seven young women will be pitted against six young men this year. In twenty-three editions, this event rightly considered the “Prix de Cornulier des Apprentis” has been won twelve times by men compared to eleven times by women. This can hope to equalize through Mathilde Colas who will be associated with Guide Me Forganwhich will make its return to the specialty. Second in the 2020 President of the Republic Prize, the resident of Pascal Castel has not returned with a saddle on his back for almost two years… Hannibal Tuileriehe has not been seen in the specialty since the summer of 2020. He will be associated with Mathis Champenois (see below).
