3 out of 15, one victory in eight games: Mechelen’s series is very bad. Against Standard, Besnik Hasi players once again lacked efficiency.
Mechelen did not conclude its calendar year as hoped. Despite big chances, Kavé could not do better than a draw against Standard. “We can be very efficient. We are less so, at the moment, and the results are less good. But it all depends on the details,” noted Rob Schoofs in the mixed zone of the AFAS Stadion.
“It’s normal, because everyone is almost equal. If you are not much better than the opponent or if you don’t score, it becomes difficult. And when you are in a period with less success, you get fewer points. It’s a period that everyone experiences in a season,” continued the captain, who therefore did not want to dramatize.
Mechelen broke through the Standard block, but forgot to score again
Mechelen is no longer part of the top 6 and will have to come out of its slow period in 2025. “One of our first chances must go in. Against Standard, our first period is very good, but we don’t score. Like in recent weeks. We need a goal early in the game to get us going.”
Even if, opposite, Standard remained on the defensive to validate its ninth clean sheet of the season. “They have a good defense, but that’s not the problem, we had the opportunity to score in the first quarter of an hour. We sometimes have the impression that it just won’t go in,” complained, as for him, Geoffry Hairemans.
According to the midfielder, it is also efficiency that is lacking in Mechelen. “At the start of the season, we scored two goals in three shots. Now, that is no longer the case and we have to find a solution to make the nets shake again,” he concluded.
