18 migrants in difficulty aboard a precarious boat off the coast of Dieppe were rescued by the French authorities this Friday, December 27. The Seine-Maritime prefecture indicates in a press release that the 18 people were dropped off and picked up in Dieppe.
Earlier in the morning, under the responsibility of the maritime prefect of the Channel and the North Sea and the prefecture of Seine-Maritime, an assistance and rescue operation at sea was conducted by the Cross Griz-Nez with help from the SNSM. Audrey Baconnais-Rosez, the sub-prefect of Dieppe, was on site to coordinate the various operations.
Reinforced patrols
The 18 migrants in difficulty on board the boat were spotted and rescued in front of the port of Dieppe before being taken care of by emergency services. The city of Dieppe made the Léon Rogé gymnasium available for the occasion.
These are 17 Syrians and one Libyan, including three minors, the prefecture told AFP.
The press release specifies that “the State services have at the same time examined administrative situations on a case-by-case basis, in close collaboration with the judicial authority, to take appropriate action.”
The prefect of Seine-Maritime praised the “responsiveness” of the actors. The prefecture specifies that “local patrols will be strengthened to increase prevention and the capacity to respond to these situations”.
