Wally Seck extinguishes the fire that was already smoldering… The December 25 concert canceled by the Baayfaal threat… Young people and their Molotov cocktails

It's been at least two months since the young people of Mbacké and Touba prepared with a certain warmth the Wally Seck concert at the Iba Gueye stadium. It was scheduled for December 25. A great communication campaign was deployed by the promoter. Unfortunately, this was without taking into account the Baayfaal threat which hung like a sword of Damocles over the “head” of the event.

THE BAAYFAAL ARE NOT KIDDING

Indeed, for some time, the “kurel Samm warmaay Touba” has noticed that crowds often leave Mbacké to return to the city. These were young people of all sexes who were returning from Navétane football matches organized by Odvcav. (Touba currently has 24 Navétane football teams, by the way, at the time when Mbacké lists 23). “Nothing but this type of gathering disrupts the tranquility of the city,” a religious leader whispered to us. In reaction to this type of behavior, the Baayfaal had already cracked down by targeting more than a hundred young people who had just finished the Ndamatou Vs Ocass derby, less than two weeks ago. 139 of these found themselves with shaved heads. This was the punishment given to them.

Since then, the mass return of demonstrations organized in Mbacké has been added to the bans. A leader of a football team based in Touba told us on the phone: “Serigne Mountakha had clearly asked young people who want to engage in certain practices prohibited in Touba to go to Mbacké. We don't play football in the religious city. And when we return from Mbacké, we manage not to trample on any prescription. Therefore, it is they who go beyond their scope of action and not us.” (Our interlocutor insisted that his identity be kept anonymous).

YOUTH RESPONSE VIA SR

Aware of the fact that just the desire to take part in the concert in Mbacké was synonymous with “sacrilege”, many young people withdrew. However, another fringe had, knowingly, decided to defy the prohibitions. First, a watshapp group was created and named: “And Khekh Baay Fall Yi”. When we take the screenshot, there were 247 members. The group has expanded in the meantime. In the discussions, it was clear that some of them were determined to fight back. A verbal exchange between a Baayfaal religious leader and a member of the said group even mentions the supply of Molotov cocktails to the “young rebels”.

Worse, in a video posted online, a young person announced his commitment to filling 09 buses in front of the great mosque of Serigne Cheikh Saliou Mbacké, making a commitment not to let it happen if the Baayfaal ever intervened. The above immediately foreshadowed clashes.

WALLY DROPS THE BOMB.

Informed of the high tension reigning in the city, Wally Seck ultimately took responsibility for canceling the concert. A decision he announced yesterday. “If I knew that this concert that I had decided to hold in Mbacké was going to cause a stir, I would never have considered it. I thank the organizer for agreeing to give up, because she could maintain it well. Let those who have already finished purchasing tickets know that these tickets remain valid. We will offer them another location soon. I do not want my name to be involved in problems, especially when it is the Mouride community and the Baayfaal who are concerned.”

WHAT TO EXPECT!

With this decision by Wally, we can now fear two or three things. First of all, musicians should take stock of the danger they run by organizing concerts in Mbacké and resolve to exclude this destination from their programming (even if Momo Dieng and Kéba Seck performed this week in Mbacké) , then that the 23 Asc of Touba are led to disappear from the navetan paintings of Mbacké and that finally… We will come back to it!
